ON THE ROAD AGAIN... DARWIN COME ON DOWN!

Buck took the boat out on Saturday after Anzac Day,one more time and was rewarded with 9 more whiting, that's the freezer full !Sunday was taken packing up and getting organised to be on the road Monday morn.packing up leaves you with no bright ideas of joining the circus!!!! Takeaway from the camp kiosk and the wind started blowing and the van starting rockin, with the wind that is,so not much sleep was had by me,his lordship snored his way through it!!

MONDAY28TH APRIL..

On the road towards Kimba, meeting up with Julie and Alan, Chelsea's inlaws, they are off to do the Birdsville Trek with some friends.Big drinking day and we sauntered off to the Kimba Pub for dinner looking and feeling a little worse for wear, but as Jules said "It's only Kimba, love!"

Windy and dusty,I reckon the farmers must loose a lot of topsoil!

Pic of the me after the wind on Sunday night!!! ( wonders of the Photobooth app on the ipad!)
TUESDAY 29TH APRIL.......

On the Stuart highway headed for Darwin 2660 kms! Rainy day but great for travelling!

The above scene is 15 kms south of Pimba and it is a salt lake Island Lagoon..Narrangar tracking station was established here between1950 and 1970 (Deep Space Station4),first deep station outside of the USA ,picked up early detections of missile launches and nuclear detonations! Closed on 22 nd December 1972.The shot doesn't do it justice, vast and magnificent out in the middle of nowhere ! Narrangar, aboriginal meaning Listen!

Arrived at Coober Pedy around 5 pm ,big day,Buck topped up with fuel.too late by the time we set up to cook,or that's my story,we had pizza from park restaurant. Amazing old italian couple,I reckon in their seventies, home made dough and the mamma had the black scarf around her head, great pizzas, glass of wine and early to bed!

WEDNESDAY 30 APRIL.....

UP EARLY AND ON THE ROAD BY 7 am ,rain has gone clear blue sky.Coober Pedy had 150 ml of rain 2 weeks ago so that was more than their annual lot in one day,the dugouts didn't fair to well!

Giant gopher holes,not!!

Upright structure are the drilling rigs, couldn't get close as I would have been knee deep in red mud even wearing my new boots!

I'd like to know how any acres of land in the are has been mined,it's definitely spread out further since we were here few years back!

When the going gets tough, the tough get goin!!!

11.45am across the Border into Northern Territory, that's 430 kms so far today!! Stopped for a cup of tea and left over ol pizza!

Scenery has changed,a few more rocks and a lot more green scrub and taller trees!

Stopped at Erldunda Roadhouse, turn off to Ayers Rock for fuel,Buck not impressed, $2.10 for diesel, popped in $60 and we'll fill up in Alice Springs as it's the principle, not quite sure how they can charge that much!! Captive audience!

Even though it's man made,it was still in a cage!!!!

Also in a cage but definitely alive,poor things,shame I didn't have some fence cutters,they'd be gone !!!!

Travelled 850kms towards Darwin, called in to the aboriginal town of Aileron, roadhouse, bar ,restaurant and caravan park but we' ll push on another 60 kms to Ti- Tree.

This statue of a male aborigine looks down over Aileron and also a large female with child and a goanna at her feet!

Buck has had enough, off the road at a roadside stop, heap of vans already there ,set up around a fire, this will do! 900kms is a big day but there isn't much to stop for! Enjoyed our night around the fire with the group, early to bed and we are on the road by 6.45am,showered in the van, even watched some shows on tv last night I'd recorded! Battery power and gas, tanks full of water and it's great !

THURSDAY1ST MAY......

Stopped off at one of my favourite spots 100 kms south from Tenant Creek-DEVILS MARBLES,I find this place magical and hope to see it again and again. Last time we camped here and I watched the colours change on them as the sun went down ,drank a bottle of champagne and smiled, although the flies are really friendly but it was good to stop have a chat to some other travellers and take some photos! Bliss!

Beautiful day!

One for each of us !

Cost is minimal to stay and there are toilets plus a few dingos that come in later in the afternoon.. Hope you can read how the marbles were form about 17 million years ago!

A secret meeting place!!! See you next time!

EASTER 2014 VENUS BAY

The week leading up to a Good Fiday were not productive fishing days for Buck,he was out at day break but couldn't catch anything!Come Easter, people in the park were feeling sorry for him so we received quite a few fish, some even cleaned and filleted ! The caravan park filled up over the Easter break,we popped over to the Port Kenny club for dinner on Thursday night with some mates and Friday I made my usual fare of Seafood pancakes, prawns supplied by the local prawn trawlers!

Buck had a productive Easter Saturday and came in with 9 ,one happy camper.he changed his tactic and used some burly! Success at last! Quite day Sunday and Monday ,we had a strong Northerly wind so we stayed around camp!

TUESDAY 22ND APRIL...I'm back in the boat and it's all happening! I catch the first 3 ,we end up with 11,Buck got the biggest so he's happy!

Sunrise on Venus Bay....

Plenty of good sized fillets,I vacuum pack them and put them in the freezer! Buck fillets and cleans them!!! I don't intend to learn!

No time to do your makeup,up at 5.45 am ! Relaxing morning until the wind came up...... We hoofed it back to shore and it was a bit rough!

Murphy finding his comfy spot,he'll stay like that for an hour!!!

Our solution to analog TV,Venus Bay must be the only place that is still analog!!!!

WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY,Buck was out fishing,9 one day ,11 the next, perfect ,vacuum packed and in the freezer!

ANZAC DAY25 th April...

Buck and I organised a champagne breakfast for anyone to join and we had a good turn up!

One guy had his tin mug and a bottle of rum, true to the Anzac spirit!

I made the chocolate cinnamon scrolls in front, nice with a glass of champagne!!!!

Great facilities, enough BBQ S so Buck could man his own, very territorial when it comes to the barbie!!!!!

VENUS BAY.......

SUNDAY 13TH......MONDAY 14TH

Buck was asked out on Ernie's boat to get the lay of the land( sea) and they caught some King George Whiting which was delicious, got so excited I forgot to get a pic of our dinner before I started to eat!! Oops!

Yummo!

Buck gets an extra lesson on fileting but alas out on the boat on Monday and no luck, too small had to throw them back,he is putting the day down as an experience on what not to do,he wanted to get to know the route but I'm off with him tomorrow, hopefully I bring good luck and fish!!!!

These birds Pacific gulls bread along its coast on Venus Bay,but the feral cats desimated the colony but they breed of shore on a small island ,I think they are lovely,a big bird,at least 3 times the size of a seagull!

View of the island where they breed!

Took of for a walk and the scenery and flora are amazing!

Murphy was impressed as it was an off leash area,Yippee!!

Wasn't sure what these little red succulents grew into but a bit further along the track.....

Aren't they special!?

Craggy cliffs that seem to fall away on a regular occasion, sad as in years time ,might not be a lot left!

Lots of caves along the shore line but warnings not to venture into them as coastline is not stable!

Great Southern Ocean,very treacherous!

Sandstone memorial was erected for a couple of young men lost their lives in a tragic boating accident ! I was taken aback whenI came across it,so sad!

The sea so clear, sorry about the angle but I wasn't crouching toooo close to the edge!

View from the jetty back towards the van park.

Great day to be out on the water!

Pelicans are everywhere, off course waiting on the beach for any throw offs!

They keep a close watch!

Something special about a pelican!
