ACROSS THE EYRE HIGHWAY TO VENUS BAY.....

Spent the last 4 days in Port Broughton quietly as it rained most of the time ... Read two books and packed up the van and boat ready to leave on Friday!

FRIDAY 11TH APRIL...

Walked out the door of the van ,touch of drizzle but a stunning rainbow touching both sides of the bay! Pulled out around 8am and made our way to Port Augusta or "Port Augutta "as I call it,not one of my favourite towns but they have a good sized shopping centre and we need supplies of the food and alcohol type!! Shopped up and turned onto the Eyre Highway towards Iron Knob then on to Kimba. The country side lacks vegetation, mainly salt bush but with all the rain that has fallen in the least week it has a certain green tinge to it which will get even better in the next few weeks, quite a lot of water lying around!

Past Iron Knob, not much of a town but we noticed they have reopened a mine since we were last here,so things may improve!

Lot of trucks on the move !

SATURDAY12TH APRIL...

Arrived at Kimba yesterday afternoon and camped at the local sporting complex ,gold coin donation and $1 for a 3 minute shower plus toilets off course! No power but I switch the van to gas ,turn on the water pump and the battery does the rest,we can run lights and the telly and the solar panel during the day will trickle feed the battery as long as the sun is shining, other than that Buck starts the car to charge it ! It is a community run project and everything new was built with volunteer labour, amazing the community spirit in these towns! Population of around 600 people and it also services a huge rural area as it grows a substantial amount of wheat for the export market! There are some serious farmers in this area!

Sporting complex, tennis courts, basketball, footy oval, always the greenest part of these little towns! The clubhouse boasts a hardworking group who cater around 160 meals on the home game nights and also do a $10 meal for whomever wants to attend on Thursday nights, bad luck we were a day late!

Unisex shower adjacent to van, watched a young couple go in together and was a bit dubious of having my shower after them, definitely wore my thongs but would have preferred gum boots!!!!???

Half a dozen vans camped for the night and this is where you meet interesting people!

Up early, morning sunrise, hopefully warmer than yesterday ,on the road just after 7am !

Buck said lets go to the bakery alongside the Big Galah but not open so pick who the galah is !!!!??

Kimba is half way between the east and west coast, there's your little bit of useless information for the day!

Journeyed onto Mudinna ,supposedly has the best bakery on the Eyre Peninusula, still not open and it's nearly 9am,this coffee and something to nibble isn't going to happen!

Main Street,not much happening!

Carved out with a chainsaw! Pride of place in the square opp the bakery!

Boat launching beach at Venus Bay!

View from our annexe,perfect!

On arrival Murphy was given a doggy treat to munch on while we set up !

Buck is opening the cockles or pippies on the east coast to salt and sugar them down, makes them stay on the hook longer......everyone is bagging out on whiting so tomorrow is the day!!!
