Arrived early, little market out the front...booked into the park behind the inn for a few nights ,had a relaxing afternoon. We are aprox 80 kms south of Darwin.SUNDAY 25 THMAY... on a walk to the War Cemetry, lots of army personal buried here but the locals who also died in the bombing of Darwin in the Second World War!
Beautiful path and park to the Cemetry.
Ahead as always!
Couldn't find any headstones ?!
Beautiful jacaranda tree out front.....
Gate into the Cemetry.
Huge frangipani, beautifully maintained lawns and garden.
Someone has placed a special plant for their loved one...
Too young...Lest We Forget !
Huge Mahogany tree. I've seen so many of these up here! The African mahogany tree was introduced to Australia in the North as well as Weipa in Queensland in the 1950s,beautiful trees, massive and they have large canopies that create beautiful shaded areas! It would be a shame to cut them down! Apparently they throw off seeds and grow very easily, some people refer to them as pests! I also read today on our walk about Bamboo, the sign said it only flowers every 50 years and the one patch that I was looking at flowered in 2000!
Found this on the net, this is the type of Bamboo that grows in the NT ,originated from India, they farm it for fences and screens! Interesting bloom, wonder if I will ever get to see one!
MONDAY 26TH MAY... decided to venture out on a drive but we were having one of those NT ( nothing there experiences) so we ended up back at the Adelaide River Heritage Railway precinct, definitely worth the $2 donation and Murphy got to look around with us!
Old land cruiser, ambulance ,no dead bodies!
Tea rooms at the station...
Not my kind of stove for baking!
Great old luggage!
Tea rooms no longer open but would have loved the room in the van to bring one of these settings home!!
Station...
Interesting bits and pieces in the out buildings...
Had cold water dispensers, nice old carriage!
Original Ghan toiletry bag!
Wooden sleepers were used for a while but the NT king termites soon made short work of them!
So..... They then shipped in steel ones from England...imagine the cost!
This sounds like an interesting piece of equipment!
Presume it's the one with the wooden handle!?
Bit worn!
Stopped in at The Bundy Station that hosts travellers!
Water Buffalo, the bulk of them in the Top End have been culled as their hooves were wrecking the wet lands!
Adelaide River races are on this weekend so it's booked out! Off in the direction of Katherine tomorrow!
